History Involved Itself

In the past twenty-four hours:

1) My "kid" cousin became a mother.

2) My best friend/ex-girlfriend (makes for a weird combination, at least at the time) from high school got engaged.

3) I sat in a British lecture hall, writing for three hours straight on Jewish Nationalism before 1933.

I can faintly hear the voice of my life screaming ADULTHOOD, ADULTHOOD, ADULTHOOD over and over, but I'll resist. I counter back with graduate school or travel or I give up. Either way, tonight I'll drown myself in Dooku, sit with the Sith and admire Amidala, somehow hoping science-fiction can transmit into non-fiction.

----------------

So, I went to a David Sedaris reading a few nights back. While I can't say I reclaimed the intercontinentall thumbwrestling ring (not belt) from Mr. Huggins, I did indeed inspire him to draw me a horse.

----------------

In other news, I will be back in Jackson on May 30, hanging around that general vicinity, sans a daytrip to Oxford, until Friday, June 3. I'd love to see your smiling faces (or, in Drew's case, frowning) before I carry on to Alanta for the rest of the summer.

You know, I wasn't going to be frowning, but now I will be you sanctimonious, self-righteous bastard.

As a writer, sir, you will never match the joys and talent of that most inimitable best-seller, Dan Brown, author of the world's greatest novel EVER, twenty-seven point one three six times better than Joyce's "Ulysses" -- that's right, "The Da Vinci Code."

I no longer believe in Christianity as we know it, or the divinity of Christ, and now I'm determined to spend the rest of my days writing theses that all purport to know where the Grail documents and the sarcophagus of Mary Magdalene are. My only regret is that "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" has turned out to be a fiction, although if I could just get my hands on that Grail diary . . .

Sanctimoniously,

Drew

Also:

Whitney Ann is now engaged? I shall have to congratulate her. My one regret is that I was the one member of the old household who didn't date her, and although we spoke of it several times, neither of us had enough interest in the other.

You don't know crap about Jewish nationalism before 1933, although I would like to pick your brain on the supposed facts you've realized.

And finally, Natalie Portman suxxxx. That's right: with four x's. She's not pretty, and she's barely a good actress.

Iconoclastically,

Drew

Drew, if you keep reading Dan Brown you will probably turn into a pile of salt.

Also, never again berate Natalie Portman on any property - electronic or not - of mine. She's not a bad actress, well in Star Wars, yes. But that's only because George Lucas is feeding her pig slop for a script.

Look, here are the facts:

1. George Lucas can't write dialogue, and he certainly can't direct actors. From my movie-watching experience, all the actors in his prequels are GOOD actors, and they all do much better jobs in other films. I'm convinced he's saying, "No, do it this way."

2. Just because Natalie Portman is better in other films than in the Star Wars prequels does NOT make her a good actress. She is not, and if she is at all she is BARELY a good actress. There are many, many, so many, many that are better. She is generally unattractive, and she doesn't really add anything to any movie that she's in. Except when she was little, because she was a really good actress back when she was a teenager in "The Professional" and "Beautiful Girls." Her talent has dissipated with every passing year. Also, the Internet Movie Database has just informed me that she is friends with Britney Spears and the members of Maroon 5. I have just vomited on my computer. Finally, she is a vegetarian, and that is the final straw.

All these details I did not know until a few minutes ago, but they merely served to cement my complete indifference toward Natalie Portman and my distaste and disdain for her legions of pre- and post-pubescent fans of hers who ought to be doing something else, like writing long posts on blogs about how much they don't care about Natalie Portman.

Palmer, this is Allen. I'm in Jacksonville right now and will be for the next two months. Although Atlanta is a good stretch from here, it'd be cool to hang out one weekend. I'm going up there a couple of times to visit Bill. Perhaps we will cross paths. My email is allenthigpen@gmail.com

I really hated "garden state" so I'd probably say I think Natalie Portman is a bad actress, although I haven't seen "closer" and if she got nominated for an oscar,i'll give her the benefit of the doubt... Chip is leaving sometime in July I think, so he should be around when you are.

Palmer, I was just talking the other night to one of my friends about how much he HATES Natalie Portman. Now, I think she's pretty, but she'll never be as good as she was in the Professional and so from now on, I'd say it's all downhill for her. By the way, there's someone on my selling team who looks a little bit like you, which is weeeeeeeirddddd.

I don't hate Natalie Portman.

I think she's kind of pretty, although nothing really special, and that's kind of the way I like them. I saw "Revenge of the Sith" tonight and thought she was pretty in an unassuming way in it. I've seen prettier. And uglier.

BUT THE MOVIE!!! MY GOD, THE MOVIE WAS SUCH A SUCCESS!!!

I'm really offended you said my song made you throw- up. I gained my lively-hood and fame off of that song. Take that back.... please... I'm so skinny and lonely... and 13- year- old hookers were all I could could get... really... I repeat... I'm so skinny and lonely... and girly...

A storm trooper delivered packages to my (now speaking as Suzanna) office building yesterday... we've now elloped. Just thought you should know that.
