Bold, New City?
The more I think about politics, the less political I become. It's not out of fear. It's akin to watching a film like "Traffic." I don't want to do drugs after seeing that. After hearing the interview below, I just do want to DO politics.

If that is the amount of political discourse we can expect from Jackson's next mayor, it will surely add a bit more to the slogan "Bold New City." Jokes aside, I'm appalled by that piece of audio. I literally think Jackson would be better off if Sherman had just burned it all. I'm willing to give up on the city's redemption.
But then again, I say all this with a post-segregation mindset. The racial venom of, say, my grandparents era might tone this down a bit. Certainly though, one could argue that hate gave way to this breakdown in civility.
I really don't know what I'm trying to say.

Actually, Sherman was no where near Mississippi. His march took him through Georgia and Atlanta. What you are wishing for is probably the Gin Soaked Ulysses S. Grant. His Vicksburg seige was probably the straw that broke the back of the South's enthusiasm for war in 1864.
Just wanted to contribute something...

Les, as a student of history I'm ashamed in my own inaptitude. I was going off the knowledge that Jackson was at one point during the war known as "Chimneyville" because all but the chimneys were burnt down. I assumed Sherman. But, thinking out loud here, I now remember my uncle lecturing me about some tree in my old neighborhood that was "probably there when Grant visited." I should have connected the dots.
Glad to see you in the blog world. I'm starting to read most of my haunts via RSS now, I hope that makes you happy.
